彼岸花は自分にとって赤の表現として大きなテーマになっている。油彩の赤は多くの色が透過性が高く、下に何かあると透けてしまう。彼岸花のような細い線は上から描かざるを得ないが、たいてい下に描いたものを反映していい色にならない。マテリアルとの戦いかも知れない。

The cluster amaryllis has become a major theme for me in expressing the color red. Manyshades of red in oil paints are highly transparent, and if there is something beneath, it tendsto show through. For delicate lines like those of the cluster amaryllis, I have no choice but topaint them on top, but often the result is not the ideal color because it reflects what'sunderneath. It might be a battle with the materials.
